Loss of Earnings Calculations

Why struggle to calculate the past or future loss of earnings? It can be complicated and a poor use of a Solicitor's time and expertise, particularly in terms of research. The alternative is to request a Loss of Earnings Schedule from YES/A D Elsegood, to cover the post-accident period and as far into the future as you wish to project.

Using a computerised spreadsheet, and the rates of tax and National Insurance for each relevant year, we can determine the likely earnings each year in both the original and in any alternative occupation. This will then reveal the likely Loss of Earnings (in net terms) for each year and, of course, the aggregate over the period.

Our methodology is sophisticated but highly productive. Typically, a Loss of Earnings Calculation for YES/ADE is presented in spreadsheet form. The visual nature of this presentation makes it easy to see where circumstances have changed and the computer methodology can easily accommodate any adjustments which may be proposed. The preparation is likely to incur a fee equating to about 3 hours of professional time, but at approximately half the charge-out rate of a Solicitor or Forensic Accountant.

It may be particularly cost-effective to request a Loss of Earnings Calculation at the same time as instructing YES to provide an Employment Report. In that event, we only need to consider the earnings information once in order to incorporate it into both the Employment Report and the Loss of Earnings Schedule. In that way, we save some time and that is reflected in a reduction in your expected fees.
